Broken digital camera

I dropped my camera and the shutter button quit working. That's why I haven't posted any pictures here lately. I haven't found anyone to fix it yet and don't know how much it will cost. Penny pinching means it can sometimes take awhile to get things fixed.

I'm not going to just drop it off at any shop that claims to be able to fix digital cameras. You know why.

Anyway, camera or not, I saw finches at the bird feeder a couple of days ago. That means spring is springing in Colorado - it's early for house finches here.

That means it's time to get busy starting seeds and getting the gardens ready for another year. If I don't have a camera, you'll just have to imagine my wonderful, enormous crops of succulent, fresh vegetables... just like I am right now. ;)

Who knows? Maybe I will have an abundant and delicious harvest!

  1. Pat,
As I recently found out with my 20 year old Kenmore sewing machine, these days it is often less expensive to buy new than to pay for repair. I loved my old Kenmore, but the $80.00 I paid new was much cheaper than the $200.00 to repair the $225.00 machine. It all depends on how much dedication you have in recycling.

Here in Houston, almost anything becomes recycled when we put it out by the garbage bin. A lot of handymen take things and rebuild them.

Check WallyWorld for a frugal replacement. Also, I've seen extremely small digital cams for kids as cheap as $10.00 at CVS and Walgreens.

    Good luck,
    Terre

  2. Thanks, Terre. I haven't done anything about it yet, but I may wind up buying another one rather than fixing this one. You're right, sometimes it makes more sense.

  3. I have a Logitech ClickSmart 550 that I would be glad to give you if it would be useful to you. I bought it at BigLots with hopes of getting started with digital photography. My fiance (at the time) whom I asked to help me with this didn't like it. I'm not sure if this was just in comparison to his digital camera or if the model is severely lacking. He found the system (including folders?) it uses related to downloading the photos cumbersome. I took very few photos with it. We are now married, and I won't be using it at all. I was going to give it to Goodwill, but if you could use it I'd rather send it to you in appreciation for all the excellent information you have provided online. Please let me know if you think it would be useful for you.

  4. I really do appreciate the offer, but I haven't decided yet whether to fix this one. It should be relatively inexpensive from what I can find out.

    Thank you for offering!

  5. I hope it does work out to get it repaired at a reasonable price.

Regarding the sewing machine comment above, I'm regretting having gotten rid of my late 1970s sewing machine rather than having it repaired. The new sewing machines have the added complication of a lot of gadgetry that I'd rather not have. Forward, backward, and zigzag stitching and buttonholes are enough for me.

  6. I agree. I don't know if you could even find a simple and dependable machine any more. Even the cheapest are loaded with a lot of stitches and gadgets that simple sewing doesn't require.
